4 tech changes that could make things worse
We love our smartphones and the GPS that takes us everywhere, but some so-called technological advances leave Americans cold, a recent study found.

The Pew Research Center, in U.S. Views of Technology and the Future, Science in the next 50 Years, reports that 59 percent of respondents believe technological changes will have a positive impact. But many people also believe some changes could be for the worse.
     Here are four:
  • Your prying eyes: More than half – 53 percent – think it would be a change for the worse if most people wear implants or other devices that offer information about the world around them. “Women are especially wary of a future in which these devices are widespread,” the report said.
  • Super babies:  An even larger share – 66 percent –told Pew it would be a change for the worse if parents could alter a child’s DNA to produce “smarter, healthier or more athletic offspring.”
  • Grandma’s bot: Similarly, 65 percent of respondents say it would be a change for the worse if “lifelike robots” cared for the sick and elderly.
  • Drone on:  Already, business executives are excited about the prospect of having drones make deliveries. But the average Joe is not enthusiastic about an unmanned aircraft dusting the azaleas during a landing on the front walk. Indeed, 63 percent say it would be a change for the worse if personal and commercial drones are permitted to fly through most U.S. airspace, Pew found.
